Missing Out On The MET Gala Madness

Updated: May 6, 2020

I plan to dedicate this month to fashion.

For me, fashion has always been a place where fantasy meets reality. I am not a fashionista per se, but I LOVE the magical world. I do live for the runway shows and couture weeks, and every year on the first Monday of May, like a religion, I look out for the MET Gala looks too. This year, unfortunately, we won't get to see the dreamy garments walking on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and I am missing its energy, for sure.

The Costume Institute Gala is a fundraising event for the annual exhibition curated by the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Each year the exhibit has a theme, and the guests have fun reimagining it in their way. Designers become stars, and starlets become muses. The two of my recent favorites are Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty (2011) and Charles James: Beyond Fashion (2014). Even last year's, Camp: Notes on Fashion was beyond amazing. Now, if I have to show y'all my favorite looks, then I can guarantee a blog won't be enough! Vogue magazine recently collated all the MET Gala looks from 2010, and it's a must-see.

This year's theme was About Time: Fashion and Duration. Doesn't it just sound brilliant? Maybe, we'll see it soon. To know more about the MET Gala, check out this video by Hamish Bowles. I am also going through the #METGalaChallenge and enjoying all the recreations by some amazing, creative minds out there.

That's not all. I have decided to dedicate this month to fashion and to reignite my passion. So, I am going to do something crazy and see as many fashion documentaries as possible and read the five fashion books I have, all this month. So, wish me luck! I did see the documentary, The First Monday In May, to kickstart this, and that's why this post dedicated is to #METGala. Love, Rashmi B.
