The New Order Of Fashion With Hints Of Nostalgia

Did you feel like you were transported to 2016 with the recent throwback pictures on Instagram? It seems we're all looking back and learning lessons from the past. Although the fashion industry is taking the cue too, it is not due to the throwback trend, but because of the designer shake-up we witnessed last year.
New creative directors all around mean a new direction. But as the first glances of their vision come to life, we can see an ode to the past. The founders of the brands and their dreams seem to be on the vision boards. The design archives are being browsed, and the future is being anchored to the ethos of the origins, honoring the founder's vision. These new takes on past silhouettes are so refreshing to the eyes and a much-needed shift.
Matthieu Blazy's first #Chanel campaign would have Coco Chanel's approval, for sure. Set in a Mediterranean villa, La Pausa, where she personally found comfort and joy, the campaign champions the past, present, and future of the brand. It grounds itself in the brand's foundations, leaving no questions about the new era of Chanel.
Balenciaga's Pre-Fall collection harkens back to Cristóbal Balenciaga's finesse in silhouette architecture. Looking at those past shapes coming to life through Pierpaolo Piccioli's eyes is invigorating. Can't wait to see how the brand's aesthetics materializes in this new, more color-induced order.
All these first peeks into the contemporary creative takes have me excited for the Haute Couture Week of Spring/Summer 2026 happening next week. Will we be going back to the future or lulling in more nostalgic joys? My notepad is ready to take it all in. 📝
Love,
Rashmi B.
