The Book That Changed My Perception Of Habits

ree

I have to say that I didn't think of minuscule habits as groundbreaking before reading Atomic Habits by James Clear. Thanks to it, I have a different understanding of these small habits that make our day-to-day lives. I have never reviewed a book before, and I don't necessarily think this blog post is a review, but more about what I learned from it.

The book's subtitle says, 'Tiny changes, remarkable results' and that's what it's all about. However, a major learning from the book has been the act of showing up. I think it has been very difficult for me to do just that when forming a good habit. To show up every day to validate a new habit is tough, and the book serves as a guide to teach us to do just that. When you show up every time, consistently, to act on a good habit, you're not only providing proof of the habit itself but for your future, improved self as well.

I feel not many people think about the act of just showing up, and it can be easily taken for granted. For example, I would applaud myself for reading a chapter of a book a day but not really think about the act of picking it up in the first place. That's what has changed for me. I am now more aware and appreciative of the first action itself. So, from now on, I have decided to pat my back for just showing up too. With what we're all going through because of the pandemic, this generous act also contributes towards self-love, I believe.

What I love about the book is the fact that it's not a repeat of the same notion again and again. The book makes us understand the true reasoning for these tiny changes. It talks about proven theories and methods developed by the author to become the best version of one's self. It's important to visualize that person and the habits of that person. In the end, it's all about showing up for that best version, every single time.

Show up for the best possible version of yourself, today and everyday.

Love,

Rashmi B.
